Series 49: Michael Lutynski
May 24, 2013
Ever wonder what it would be like to sell 99% of everything you own and devote your life to spiritual growth?
What would happen? Enlightenment? How would you even know if you were enlightened? How would people treat you once they knew you were a monk? What is the vow of “Brahmacharya”, the dreaded vow traditionally interpreted as “no sex”? Is there even another way to look at it?
These are the very questions Michael Lutynski, now an ex-monk, asked himself 11 years ago!
In this candid talk, listen to his stories about being a full-on (though unusual) monk for 5 ½ years, spanning three countries and two languages.
Along the way, he’ll inevitably talk about the mind, the nature of thinking, unexamined concepts of spirituality, and maybe--just maybe--even do a short meditation to recognize the Infinite aspect of ourselves.
If nothing else, you’ll have a better idea of why you can’t get to sleep at night when your head is spinning.
Whatever the evening will be like, it will be unique, because of your questions too!
Michael Lutynski now teaches meditation minus the mysticism along with exotic dark chocolates, just for the fun of it. His courses are found at www.stopthemindspam.com

April 13, 2013.
Recovering Keys from the Ancient Mystery School of China (Part Two)
Do you ever wonder what is behind locked memory?
"A hand of the ancients drew a diamond on the wall.
Evening light trembled;
dolphins sang from the ocean floor.
Eons had passed,
since anyone had tried
to walk through that door."
- a poem from 'A journey to Camatkara'
by Synn Kune Loh
Part 2 is to focus on the two keys discoveries by Synn Kune on how ancient mystery school knowledge is not hidden but can be found in plain sight through the structure of the Chinese written word, and four sacred texts that are currently available in libraries and bookstores.
Synn Kune is an artist, a poet and a seeker who specializes in unique ideas. His presentation will lead you on a speculative journey that links the earth and the heavens, the familiar and the bizarre, the impossible and the inevitable.
Part One is not a pre-requisite.

Series 42: Darrin McCloskey, a writer
Feb 1, 2013
From Conception to its Natural End: seeing it through
Have you ever felt you had a story to tell, but just didn’t know how to tell it?
Join Darrin M. McCloskey as he talks about the various gestations in the creation of his latest novella Garden of da Gulf.
“I first conceived the story back in 1993 while sitting in a single-room bedsit in Cambridge, England. The opening line came to me: “The night was like any other in the city of Charlottetown in the middle of January: crisp raw and cruel like a streptococcal throat.” I liked how it sounded and so wrote it in my notebook and promised myself that I would use it — someday, somewhere, somehow. And you know, for the longest time I thought the ‘streptococcal throat’ was just an indication of my inability to express myself. Destroying the book was always an option. But I didn’t. Actually, I couldn’t. Something inside me said to see it through.”
Learn many hands on and practical tools like creating your own independent press, getting ISBNs, printing costs as well as how to market your idea. Most importantly, however, learn about seeing your idea through.

~ The Tree of Life ~
Something NEW for the New Year! This salon will be a presentation of an e-book by Robin Clark. In order to focus the evening on discussion rather than a presentation, you are invited to view the e-book and prepare three questions in advance (Please email your 3 questions on your RSVP or write them down on paper and bring them along):
Go to the e-book: http://issuu.com/sciencetosage/docs/robin_s_tree_story1_?mode=window&backgroundColor=%23222222
Q1: Something about the e-book text or photos
Q2: What about the content or technical nature of the e-book
Q3: What about the deeper philosophical aspects of the e-book?
Asking questions is so important because it allows us to engage in further discussion and find common ground!
